Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) is a premier medical education and tertiary healthcare institution located on Garha Road, Jalandhar, Punjab. Spread across more than 55 acres, PIMS was envisaged by the Government of Punjab in 1999 as the first medical college-cum-teaching hospital in the Doaba region. The institution was developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with the aim of providing quality medical education and comprehensive, affordable healthcare services.
PIMS brings together medical education, clinical expertise, research, and patient care within an integrated academic healthcare environment. The institution is supported by experienced faculty, modern classrooms, lecture theatres, laboratories, museums, a central library, and computer facilities that help students develop strong theoretical knowledge along with practical clinical skills. The institute provides medical education and clinical training through its medical college and teaching hospital. Its academic environment encourages students to connect theoretical learning with hands-on experience, while its multidisciplinary departments provide exposure to a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. PIMS also offers MBBS and postgraduate DNB programmes along with paramedical education and clinical training opportunities.
PIMS Hospital is a tertiary-care healthcare facility with modern infrastructure and comprehensive clinical services. The hospital currently features a 750-bed facility, a 30-bed emergency unit, 10 operating theatres, advanced diagnostic facilities, an in-house blood bank, and intensive care services. These facilities support quality patient care while providing students with valuable real-world clinical exposure. Community healthcare is an important part of the institution's philosophy. PIMS undertakes medical camps, health check-ups, and charitable healthcare initiatives aimed at reaching people in areas where access to medical facilities may be limited. Through these activities, the institution seeks to combine professional medical excellence with social responsibility and compassionate service.
With its focus on medical education, clinical excellence, research, and compassionate patient care, Gian Sagar Medical College & Hospital continues to contribute to the development of skilled healthcare professionals and the improvement of healthcare services in Punjab and beyond. The institution strives to create a learning environment that encourages knowledge, innovation, ethical practice, and service to humanity.

Seats across all medical institutions, colleges, and universities are allocated through a counseling process, which is based on eligibility scores or ranks, college preferences, and seat availability. The counseling process comprises multiple rounds, such as Round 1, Round 2, the Mop-up Round, and the Stray Round. Each subsequent round depends on seat availability; if seats remain vacant after a round, the next round is conducted.
