Eligibility :
Candidates must be at least 17 years of age by December 31st of the year of enrollment. They must have completed their Higher Secondary education (10+2) in the Science stream, with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (or Biotechnology) as subjects. A minimum of 50% marks is required (40% for SC/ST and 45% for the OBC category).
Admission Procedure :
Students wishing to pursue medical studies must take the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) after completing Class 12. Admission to all government, central, private, and deemed colleges is based on NEET scores. Seats across all medical institutions, colleges, and universities are allocated through a counseling process based on eligibility scores or ranks, college preferences, and seat availability. The counseling process comprises several stages, such as Round 1, Round 2, the Mop-up Round, and the Stray Vacancy Round. Each subsequent round depends on seat availability; if seats remain vacant after a round, the next round is conducted.
The table below provides information on cut-off marks and ranks based on state reservation categories for the allocation of 85% of MBBS seats at the Raipur Institute of Medical Sciences, Raipur.
For any student, the most challenging period is waiting for the post-NEET counseling process to determine whether they have secured a seat in their preferred college. This uncertainty can sometimes persist for months due to multiple rounds of counseling. The situation has become even more complex because the All India Quota counseling and state-level counseling processes are taking place simultaneously due to COVID-19. The counseling process is highly intricate, involving over 550 government and private colleges offering more than 83,000 seats, with a vast disparity in fees—ranging from less than ₹1 lakh to as much as ₹2.5 crore for the course.
